The LCD of both fractions is 8, so multiply both sides by 8.
Distribute the 2 on the left side.

1/4(r - 5/2) = 1/8
Divide both sides by 1/8 :0
2(r - 5/2) = 1
r - 5/2 = 1/2
r = 1/2 + 5/2 = 6/2
r = 3 Answer
