She needs to exercise daily to keep herself physically healthy. Exercise increases the insulin sensitivity of your cells, which is important due to the exercise causing your body to need less insulin to keep your blood pressure under control.

She can check her risk of developing diabetes by taking tests. From the test results, she will find out if she is at risk, and if she is, then she can either look up information on her own for preventing diabetes, or she will be recommended things to do by her doctor.
