let the number of free throws be x and that of point shots be y
x+y=25
⇒x=25-y...i
also:
x+2y=46...ii
substituting i in ii we get:
(25-y)+2y=46
solving for y we get:
y=21
hence
x=25-21=4
thus the number of free shots was 4 and that of point shots was 21
