let the increase be x m
new length=(7+x)m
new width=(4+x) m
the current area of the garden is:
Area=length*width
A=4*7=28 sq. meters
when the area is doubled we shall have:
28*2=56
thus the new area will be:
(x+7)(x+4)=56
x^2+11x+28=56
x^2+11x-28=0
solving for x we get:
x=2.1
thus the dimensions are:
length=7+2.1=9.1
width=4+2.1=6.1
