Commodore George Dewey commanded the forces that destroyed the spanish fleet stationed in Manila Bay.
George Dewey was Admiral of the Navy of the United States. He became popular because of his victory at the Battle of Manila Bay during the Spanish–American War.
The Spanish Pacific fleet was destroyed by the U.S. Asiatic Squadron at Manila Bay in the Philippines on May 1, 1898.
As a consequence of United States triumph of this war, U.S. acquired territories in the western Pacific and Latin America.
