Which bodies of water did the union ships occupy as part of their blockade?

The correct answer is the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean

They did it so as to prevent Confederate ships from helping each other and also to prevent them from seeking international help and support. The blockade was a key component in winning the war since the Confederacy became more or less landlocked and occupied from all sides which caused a lot of trouble for them.
