Answer: Acid is a proton donor and base is a hydroxide donor.

Explanation: According to Arrhenius concept of Acid Base theory, Acid is defined as the species which can easily donates its positive species that is a proton(
H^(+)) in aqueous solutions. Thus Hydrochloric acid is considered as acidic in nature as it will be able to donate its proton to the water.

HCl (aq) + H2O (aq) ⇄ H+ (aq) + Cl- (aq)

Base is a species which is able to donate its negative species that is hydroxide ion (OH-) in aqueous solutions.
