What process did states use to decide whether to ratify the constitution

The federal government turned the constitution over to the states to ratify. Each state held conventions in which state leaders would decide whether or not to agree to accept the constitution. Once nine states had ratified the constitution and its first ten amendments, the constitution became the law of the land.
