An unfertilized turkey egg has 20 chromosomes. The somatic cells in the wings contain 40 chromosomes like any other body cells, which is the diploid number. However, the formation of an turkey egg takes place through the process of meiosis which leads to formation of haploid cells (with half the number of chromosomes).
