The nurse must inform the diabetic client that taking prednisone or any corticosteroid medication can increase the blood glucose level so they must monitor their blood sugar levels regularly.
In addition, if necessary, they must take more oral medication or insulin if their blood sugar levels increase to help normalize their blood glucose.
Furthermore, prednisone’s effect on the blood glucose will go away in one to two days after the client stop taking the steroid.
