White Virginians blamed the revolt on outside agitators


The slave rebellion took place in Southampton County, Virginia, during August 1831. around 65 people are estimated to have died in the hands of the insurrection led by Nat turner. The rebellion was crushed but Turner was able to stay in hiding for two months after.
