After the pinochle game Percy discovered that Mr. Brunner, his Latin teacher, was a centaur called Chiron. Chiron was an immortal centaur known for his extraordinary wisdom. He saved Percy from a fury by throwing Percy a ballpoint pen which turned into a sword.
