Assuming you are solving for x

do the opposite of PEMDAS. Isolate the x. Because of equal sign, what you do to one side, you do to the other.

x/5 + 9 = 4

x/5 + 9 (-9) = 4 (-9)

x/5 = 4 - 9

x/5 = -5

x/5(5) = -5(5)

x = -5(5)

x = -25

-25 is your answer for x

hope this helps
