|x + y − z|

Plug in x, y, and z.

|(-5) + (-2) - (-4)|

Solve.

|-3|

The absolute value symbols, |, mean that the negatives in the number don't matter. It just means how far away from 0 the number is.

So, |-3| = 3.

The answer is 3.
