The merchants started trading works of art and books and similar things with foreigners and getting them to Europe. This was important because many works of Roman or Greek origin were lost in Europe but were preserved in Arabian libraries since Arabs collected and translated anything they could find during the Golden Age of Islam. Merchants traded with them and reignited interest in classical culture again.
