Sensory stimuli are interpreted and perceptions are formed in the brain.

Perception is the way the brain makes sense of sensory stimuli. Perception actually organizes, identifies and interprets sensory stimuli. The perception of stimuli depends on learning, memory, expectation, and attention of an individual. Different areas of the brain process different kinds of sensory information.
