The Resignation of San Martin from the Spanish Army is one of the most curious and controversial aspects of his life, yet the one which had the most far reaching effects.

San Martin had considerable military experience as a Spanish soldier and fought in numerous wars against the Moors, the British, the French and others.

With his experience and knowledge of the Spanish army, he was able to go back to South America and work towards the Liberation of Argentina and Peru from the Spanish Empire.

In both, Argentina and Peru, he is considered a national hero
