Marshes are wetland ecosystem that forms transition between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. Marshes are characterized by soils with poor mineral content therefore,these soils can only sustain grasses not trees. Hence, marshes lacks trees and woody plant growth. Marshes are situated commonly at the mouths of rivers, therefore, perodic flooding occurs.
