The higher the expression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter family in a tumor, the more resistant the cancer cells are to chemotherapy. In the tumor tissue, tumor resistance can be connected to the physiology of the tumor tissue, including poor vasculature. These are some of the factors that are responsible for the recurrence of tumors.
