The Neritic Zone or also known as the 'coastal waters' is significant because it is the most productive part of the ocean where most of the sea life is found when we think of the word 'ocean'. Because of its proximity to land, they benefit from nutrient-rich runoff from land, thus, a lot of green plants grow there which provides oxygen to the creatures.
