The eisenhower years... was america ready for a republican again?

The Eisenhower years saw increased prosperity in the USA, and most importantly conservative thoughts and and a largely peaceful society despite the pangs of the cold war. This could have given his republican predecessor a republican ticket without a lot of hassle. But the society was feeling more needed needed to be done about the cold war,civil rights,and welfare of the average person, and the democrats were best suited .
