i believe that it depends on the amount of work done that affects the amount compensation given as well as the performance of the task at hand

I think it depends on the situation. If the child is willing to work hard and put in just as much effort as an adult, they should be paid the same amount, especially if they are in need. However, if the child is lazy or irresponsible, they definitely should be paid less.
