The length of a rectangle is 2 centimeters longer than its width. The perimeter is 16 centimeters.

Length of rectangle = L

Width of the rectangle = W

The length of a rectangle is 2 centimeters longer than its width.

So L = W + 2

Perimeter of rectangle = 2* length + 2* width

= 2* (W+2) + 2* W = 2W + 4 + 2W = 4W + 4

Given perimeter = 16cm

16 = 4W + 4

Subtract 4 on both sides

12 = 4W

Divide by 4 on both sides

3 = W

So width of the rectangle = 3 cm

Length = W + 2 = 3+2 = 5 cm
