16 students in the drama club want to attend a play. The ticket price is $35 for each student, and the transportation and meals for everyone will cost $960. To pay for the trip the students design sweatshirts to sell for a profit of $19 per sweatshirt. If each student sells the same number of sweatshirts, how many sweatshirts must each student so so that there will be enough money to pay for the trip?

First find the total cost

16 x 35= 560 + 960= 1520

Then find the formula for the total amount of sweatshirts that need to be sold

19x=1520

1520/19= 80 sweatshirts need to be sold total

There are 16 students, so 80/16=5

Each student needs to sell 5 sweatshirts
