Tipu Sultan was the son of Hyder Ali who succeeded his father as the ruler of the Indian State Mysore. He proved to be a powerful ruler, a military commander who was hated by the British East Company. He fought three wars against the company and was described as a tyrannical despot and a fanatic Muslim who forced people to convert into the religion, He was known to torture captured British soldiers in faul dungeons which he owned. The British fears of Tipu Sultan were felt broadly across the political and class divisions throughout Britain.
To strengthen the power of Mysore as an independent kingdom, Sultan introduced new administrative systems, Mysore coins, a new Mauludi lunisolar calendar, new land revenue systems, commissioned the Fathul Mujahides a military manual, expanded the iron cases mysorean rockets which he is said to be one of the pioneer users against the British during war.
He also developed an economic system in the 18th C that made Mysore a world major economic power with highest real wages and high living standards for people.
