In what ways does the world depend on oil from the arabian peninsula

The Arabic peninsula is the backbone of oil supplies in the world,controlling the bulk of all world oils sales and production. The effect of this was felt in the 1970's when the Arabic controlled OPEC put embargo on oil sales to protest USA resupply of weapons to the state of Israel.
