ADP is converted to ATP
. An electron transport chain is a series of complexes that transfer electrons from electron carriers such as NADH and NADPH to electron acceptors, such as oxygen, via reduction and oxidation reactions that occur simultaneously. It couples the transfer of protons (hydrogen ions) across a membrane which enhances synthesis of ATP from ADP and inorganic phosphate.
