The resulting cell is known as the Zygote. An embryo is an early stage of development of a multicellular diploid (46 chromosomes) eukaryotic organism. In organisms that reproduce sexually, a zygote is first formed after the fusion of the male and female gametes (fertlization) which then divides resulting into an embryo.
