The functionalist perspective states that societies develop social structure, or institutions that persist because they play a part in helping society survive. These institutions include the family, education, government, religion, the economy and dozens more. This perspective focuses on the fact that many people and interworking of a society work together and try to attain perfect harmony. By maintaining harmony and balance the society benefits greatly.
