Organ reserve, homeostasis, allostasis

Young adults rarely experience serious illness because organ reserve, homeostasis and allostasis functioning tend to work in harmony. Organ reserve is the ability of an organ to efficiently return to its original physiological state after repeated episodes of stress. Homeostasis is the ability of a system to adjust to its internal environment to maintain a stable equilibrium. Allostasis is the process of maintaining homeostasis through the adaptive change of the organism’s internal environment. All of these three systems of body functioning tend to work in harmony.
