Asexual reproduction or parthenogenesis occurs in Komodo dragons. The doubling of the egg genes during the parthenogenesis most probably occurred when, in essence, another egg, did the job of fertilization instead of the sperm. During the oogenesis (the process of making an egg cell), a polar body is produced which contains a duplicate copy of egg DNA. In the case of the Komodo dragon, polar bodies evidently acted as sperm and turned over into embryos.
