Particularly native communites in Africa were given cash crops to plant, from the Americas.  Cholacte, cotton, and tobacco.  This made burning for more land acceptable.  The slash and burn policy, destroyed the landscape.  Also the this was easier to more famine, becuase local food was not planted.
