A lake is an example of a littoral zone and a spring is an example of a discharge zone. The littoral zone is a part of the sea or lake that is close to the shore. It extends on high water mark to shoreline that has been submerged. It allows as well aquatic plants to grow. Groundwater flows until it reaches the discharge zone in which the water is above the surface of the land.
