One of the main ideas of Jacksonian democracy was the expansion of suffrage. By the time Jackson was elected to his second term in 1832, suffrage had expanded to include the majority of white men. What effect did this expansion of suffrage have on American society?

More common men were voting and brought other issues to politics ignored by the more exclusive system.

Jackson believed voting needed to expand to include those not owning land. This presented new ideas regarding states' rights and individual freedoms. This group didn't care about industrialization or plantations very much.
