The citywide federation was founded in 1834 in New York by labor activists who comprised of 9 different craft groups ( artisans, non-farm workers) before the 19th C. Due to large-scale production of goods, they joined unions to preserve their heritage. In unison, they fought for the common good thus growth of trade union interest groups during this period.
