This is a Representativeness Heuristic kind of cognitive bias. The representativeness heuristic is used when making judgments about the probability of an event under uncertainty. Same as other heuristics, making judgments based on representativeness is planned to work as type of mental shortcut, allowing a person to make decisions quickly.
