To produce estimates for a wide range of victimizations, The National Crime Victimization Survey employs a classical area sampling design, with collection using numerous phases with clustering and stratification. This resulted in a nationally representative sample of people recognized for the collection of data. The NVCS is created on the nationally representative sample of family and practices identical processes to interview and select respondents.
