Step-by-step explanation:

The Rutherford's model of an atom successfully explained the presence of a positively charged core i.e. the nucleus around which electrons revolved. However it failed to explain the location of the electrons and the reason behind the electrons not spiralling down into the nucleus.

This is was later explained by the Quantum Mechanical model of an atom which established that electrons in an atom occupy discrete energy levels and emit electromagnetic radiation as thet transition from one energy level to the other.
