What was the main point to the Tenure of Office Act of 1867? No congressman could be removed from office without due process of the law. The office of president did not require any kind of Congressional approval during war. No president could fire an appointed cabinet member without Senate approval. Once a cabinet member was appointed, he/she served in that capacity for life.
