Let the first and second numbers be x and y respectively.

Then,
2x+4y = 20
x=3y

Substituting for x,

2(3y)+4y=20 => 6y+4y =20 =>10y=20 =>y =20/10 = 2
And therefore, x=3y = 3*2 = 6

Therefore,
First number = 6 and second number =2
