When governments provide subsidies to their industries they are giving them an advantage to compete more successfully in global markets such as in Canada in the Tumbler Ridge area in northeastern BC the federal government paid for the creation of the new town as a hub for the coal mining in the area thus facilitating the production of coal and its sale on world markets.
