An apple-shaped fat pattern increases a person's risk for cardiovascular disease. Such a person has excess fat around his or her midsection. Thereby, body fat is not evenly distributed. Even worse, a large amount of fat surrounds the internal organs. That fat increases levels of bad cholesterol, raises blood pressure, and reduces insulin sensitivity. All these symptoms raise the risk of developing heart disease.
