How could you show that two fractions are equivalent?

I am not really sure if that what the question asks for, but I know it is right;
By simplifying them to the smallest value of fraction possible, if the 2 simplified fractions are equal then you proved the equity of both fractions.
For Example;
Prove that
`(500)/(1000)` is equal to
`(800)/(1600)`
Solution: Simplify;

`(500)/(1000)= (5)/(10)= (1)/(2)`
Similarly,

`(800)/(1600)= (8)/(16)= (1)/(2)`
So both are
`=(1)/(2)`
