Ninety percent of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are women.
Lupus is an autoimmune disease which most commonly affects women (women are 9 times more likely to contract this disease than men). It is a disease in which your own body, your own immune system starts attacking healthy tissues in your body, causing it to slowly shut down. There is no cure for SLE, and the main cause of death is heart attack.
