The fact you dealing with a right angle doesn't really come into the picture.

The picture shows that the triangles are not congruent (you shouldn't use a picture but I have. It makes the explanation easier.)

D is another way of expressing A. The rt angle doesn't make any difference.

The parallel lines are what makes the difference.
