At age 4, James underwent a biopsy of the right gastrocnemius muscle. The pathologist's report noted histopathologic changes suggestive of Duchenne muscular dystrophy. Describe the typical microscopic changes noted in the muscle tissue of someone with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy.

Duchenne's muscular dystrophy is an X-linked inherited disease that caused progressive loss of muscle cells. When the muscle cells die, it will be replaced by fat or connective tissue. Typical microscopic changes that can be found microscopically would be the decreased number of muscle cells and the increased number of fat/connective tissue
