1. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, most people were self-reliant. They grew their own food, made their own clothes, etc. Today, very few are self-sustaining. What do you think caused this change? Explain your answer. Is this progress in your opinion? Why or why not?

Prior to the Industrial Revolution, machines were not often used in factories and in agriculture, therefore, people were self-sustaining. Also they did not have quick resources around them, adding to the reason for their self-sustainment. However, as machinery advanced, factories produced clothing easier and farming took less labor and time; therefore, people today do not need to be self-sustaining due to advance technology in manufacturing and agriculture.(opinion about progress can differ)
