C) Basic unit of inheritance

Genes can be inherited by offspring from parent. They can determine a characteristic/trait, but usually many genes influence each. Genes can't be "measured" with a unit.

The answer is C. Genes are the basic unit of inheritance as they define our DNA and determine our characteristics.
