I believe the answer is: Reaction formation.
Reaction formation is often created from the impulses that created when we're anxious. It's a form of defense mechanism to avoid being labelled as 'outcast' by a certain social group by doing the complete opposite of what they desire because they desire is somehow deemed as 'bad' by society.
