Most good stories follow an effective organizational pattern, as illustrated in the textbook's story-building chart. which phase of the story-building chart answers the questions, "what did you or the characters see, hear, feel, smell, or taste?" and "how are the characters reacting to what's happening?"

Action/Conflict

When we look at stories and when you are able to describe what it is a character did by manner of the character’s seeing, hearing, smelling, or tasting, you’ll know that these are all verbs (thus actions). Additionally, in stories, characters will react to what is happening to them or around them, and these happenings occur in the form of conflict.
